Neurophysiological approach for overcoming the masturbation addiction

Reader: 1/18/2003>I have a question. I have been masturbating for about 10 years now. I have noticed that when I try to stop masturbating, I begin to feel overwhelming emotional pain. I feel anxious, depressed, and over all, just a lot of pain, on an emotional level. I doubt it has been caused by the sex, because I actually felt like this before I started masturbating at age 10. It has become something in my life that is overpowering for me. I have wanted to stop just for the sake of not being controlled by it. I was wondering if there is uncommon, if there is anything I can do? I am actually in a 12 step program for sex addicts. I have wanted to be able to stop, but the longest I can ever go is about 1-2 weeks, then I have to start back up, because I'm in immense emotional pain. It seems that no one knows what it is, or what is causing it.
