Hello Doctor Lin....I am a 21 year old black male. When I was 16 In high school I had moderate to severe acne. My mom took me to the derm who gave me an acne drug called Acutane. which I was on for 5 months it was 40mg one day then 80mg the next day for 7days, then a week off, then do the same thing for 7 more days. During treatment I had really bad mood swings and I would break everything in my room and just act really crazy. Those were the only other side-effects besides the dry skin and lips. A few months after the treatment was finished My skin was clear and I was more out-going and really was enjoying life unlike before, I seemed to have this rush of energy. I felt really strong and confident. And I was always horney and Masterbated like crazy. That maybe lasted 6months and after that I started getting sick and having these strange infections all the time, almost as if I had HIV or something. Then I started having mood swings and major depression, my body was really hot and i would sweat really bad. My face would flush all the time. My energy levels would be up up then down down. I went to doctors who ran test and told me everything was fine and it was all in my head. I ended up going on antidepressants just to be able to sleep and function from normal life stress. My question to you doc is do you think the acne drug maybe interfered with my brain and started all of this. I am now severely depressed I don't get any enjoyment from things I once liked. I still get morning erections sometimes , my body is cold and my hands and feet are numb. I cant sleep without taking sleeping pills. I only have enough energy to work.
