I am a male 51 years young in great shape. I am 6 feet 195 and still run 26 mile marathons. I had bipass surgery 5 years ago as a percautionary method to keep from getting a heart attack. I have a perfect heart muscle and never had an attack. I have been on the Statin drugs for over seven years and believe they are causing muscle pain and sexual side effects. The drug i am on now is called Bayc?l (chosterol-lowing drug). I tried them all, lipitor, pravachol, and zocor. My libidio is down I am moody and tired and my erecions are soft and not well maintained. I am having a testostrone test tomorrow. Can these statins be the cause of the sexual problems? I always had a great sex drive and could go for ever until it slowly eroded. I dont believe age is that much a factor. what can I do for suppliments for the high Cholorestrol and the sexual side effects. I would like to get off the statins. A high cholesterol indicates that your liver produces insufficient "cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme complex" to convert cholesterol into hormones. It is the liver functioning problem. Without the enzyme complex, the hormonal production pathways of DHEA and testosterone are blocked.
The cholesterol-lowering drug is to block the action of an enzyme required for manufacture of cholesterol in the liver.
Unfortunately, cholesterol is essential for hormonal production.
